Every day, our minds assimilate information and news. If we are singing affirmations, we are obviously in control of the message and can keep the focus on the positive. However, we are often barraged with bad news, negative political ads and acrimonious chatter from cable news commentators. It is literally “junk food” for our psyche and can easily put us in a gloomy place, which compromises our intention to create meaningful and purposeful lives. Because of this, it is extremely important that we are careful about what we “ingest” into our minds. If we are trying to eat healthier foods, then we would probably try to stay away from donuts and French Fries. Likewise, if we are trying to creative a more positive way of being in the world, we might want to avoid negativity to as much of an extent that is possible.
In addition to singing positive affirmations every day, we can make an effort to find inspirational blogs and uplifting news stories to read. Although it may be buried underneath the negative chatter of the 24- hour news cycle, good news is definitely out there. Happy people are making a positive impact on the world every single day. If we can be mindful and aware of good things in our local neighborhood and global community, then we will enhance the benefits of singing positive affirmations.
